The life cycle of a butterfly consists of four 

stages – egg, larva, pupa and adult butterfly.

Egg: The first stage starts with the egg. The butterfly lays very small and round eggs in the leaves of the plant.

Larva: Which is called caterpillar. After the egg bursts, the larva emerges. This larva eats leaves and flowers. This larva eats only a few types of leaves, hence the female butterfly lays its eggs in those leaves.  Which the larva can eat.
