The nominate subspecies (Amandava) can be seen in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Strawberry Finch is also known as Red Munia or Red Avadavat. This bird breeds in the monsoon season in the Indian subcontinent. This bird which looks like a strawberry is very cute and beautiful to look at.

The scientific name of strawberry finch is Amandava amandava and the name Amandava and the common name of Avadhavat are derived from the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India. Strawberry finches are found in small flocks. But these birds can also be seen in the forest and live in large flocks of up to 100 birds.

Strawberry finches mostly live in tall grass in flat plains and a strawberry finch is a species of waxwing birds of Astrildidae. The natural habitat of these birds extends throughout South and East Asia from Pakistan to the Malay Peninsula and the surrounding islands.

Before mating, male strawberry finches try to attract female strawberry finches with their bright red feathers. Which perform a mating dance that includes bending, singing and jumping. After that breeding pairs build nests and live together throughout the breeding season. Female birds nest on the ground or in bushes and have a cup-shaped nest made of grass and roots.

The breeding season of these birds varies regionally and the breeding season is from April to November. Mostly starts in the second half of the rainy season and lasts until the next dry months. The female strawberry finch lays 4 to 6 eggs and the incubation is done by the male bird during the day and the female bird during the night. These birds incubate their eggs for 11-14 days. Their babies leave the nest after 20 days of being fed by both the male and the female.
